Information about TFA
Stages of Teach for America training:
1. Induction – a week of “orientation” to your new region
2. Institute – five weeks of summer training, in which you teach summer school by day and lesson plan/study by night.
3. Employment. At some point over your summer, you are “placed” in a school, a.k.a. hired. You then have a two year commitment during which you teach and earn your Master’s degree in education. You are now a “Corps Member,” or “CM.”
4. Alum. After your two year commitment, you are considered a TFA Alum! As one of 14,000 TFA Alumni, there is a 60% chance that you will choose some kind of education career, whether it’s being an administrator, a lawmaker, a teacher, or a policy maker. Other popular choices are nonprofit/NGO work, business, and medicine.
I can’t reiterate my disclaimer enough times, but I’ll do it one more time.
